Closure Looms For PA Nuclear Plant That Did Not Clear PJM Auction
May 30, 2017
After its Three Mile Island nuclear plant failed to clear PJM’s recent auction, Exelon said it will shut the facility in September 2019 if Pennsylvania lawmakers do not pass financial support for the 852 MW generator. The company wants legislators to integrate nuclear energy into the state's renewable portfolio standard or pass a zero emissions credit program similar to those in New York and Illinois. Exelon also indicated it may consider closing a nuclear plant in Illinois that didn't clear the auction if the company does not begin to receive subsidies passed in that state last year.
