December 20, 2016
ERCOT set a winter peak demand record of 57,958 MW on Monday morning, Dec. 20, beating a five-year-old mark of 57,282 MW, the Texas grid operator said. It also set a wind output record of 15,195 MW on Saturday, Dec. 18, topping the previous high of 15,033 MW on Nov. 27. The winter peak record was set between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday, as freezing temperatures blanketed the state, marking the first major winter storm of the season after a fairly mild winter last year.
