FE Wants Customers To Pay To Keep Headquarters In Akron
September 06, 2016
FirstEnergy has asked regulators to approve as much as $568 million a year for eight years in customer surcharges to keep the company’s headquarters in Akron. Manufacturers, consumer advocates, and environmental groups said they were left flabbergasted by the proposed hike, which FE said would compensate for the economic impact of staying in the northeast Ohio city. But critics point out there is no evidence FE plans to relocate, and the company announced last year it had signed a lease to remain in its current location through 2025.
