Monitor: PJM’s Wholesale Electricity Markets Competitive
November 14, 2017
PJM’s wholesale electric energy, capacity, and regulation markets produced competitive results during the first nine months of 2017, the grid operator’s independent market monitor reported. Among the findings: PJM’s load-weighted average real-time locational marginal price was 3.5 percent higher in the first nine months of 2017 than in the first nine months of 2016, primarily because of increased fuel prices; total energy uplift charges fell by $16 million or 15.7 percent; total payments for demand response programs decreased by $167.2 million or 31.1 percent; and congestion costs declined by $366.8 million or 44.6 percent.
