March 09, 2018
PJM’s wholesale electric energy and capacity markets produced competitive results during 2017, according to the grid operator’s independent market monitor. Energy prices were higher due to higher fuel prices but remained low; the load-weighted average real-time locational margin price was 6 percent higher in 2017 than it was in 2016, $30.99 per MWh vs. $29.23 per MWh. Additionally, average capacity prices were lower; total energy uplift charges declined; total payments for demand response programs fell; and congestion costs decreased.
