NYISO Expects Demand To Fall, Sees More Complexity In Managing Grid

May 212018

NYISO said in a new report it expects the state’s energy demand to decline over the next decade at a rate of 0.14 percent annually and projects peak demand will fall by 0.13 percent per year through 2028. It forecast that energy efficiency alone will cut bulk power system peak demand by 245 MW this year and 2,262 MW in 2028. NYISO said operating the grid is becoming increasingly complex as energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, low natural gas prices, and public policies impact a more weather-influenced system, and added it will look at market designs that “preserve revenue adequacy for generators that are necessary for reliability.”
