PJM Reports Wholesale Solar Generation Fell By 520 MW During Eclipse
August 31, 2017
PJM said it recorded a drop of approximately 520 MW of wholesale solar generation from before the Aug. 21 eclipse until the peak of the eclipse. In addition, the grid operator estimated that electricity from behind-the-meter solar generation – mostly rooftop panels that offset load – decreased by about 1,700 MW. PJM also reported that due to a number of factors, demand fell by 5,000 MW throughout the event.
