Sufficient Resources, Lower Prices Seen After ISO-NE Capacity Auction
February 19, 2016
Power resources in New England should be sufficient and prices lower in the years 2019 and 2020, ISO-NE said after its annual capacity auction. The grid operator reported that more than 1,400 MW of new generating capacity are coming online to replace generating stations that have closed or are expected to close. Other results from the auction include 31,371 MW of generation, 1,450 MW of imports from New York and Canada, and 2,746 MW of demand-side resources. Additionally, the clearing price was $7.03/KW-month, more than 25 percent lower than last year’s price of $9.55/KW-month.
