Texas power demand rising more than expected
December 19, 2016
The demand for power during Texas' hot summers is growing more rapidly than energy providers thought, ERCOT says. The grid operator's 2016 forecast shows slightly higher power usage for the next few years than was predicted by its 2015 forecast. The increase will tax its reserves, but ERCOT still expects to have adequate resources. Peak demand is expected to rise to more than 71,000 MW during the summer of 2017, up from last year's 70,500 MW. Demand is projected to reach more than 77,700 MW by 2021.
