Coal for Energy Continues Slide
June 11, 2019
EIA reports that coal still accounts for 16% of primary energy production in the U.S. (2018 data). U.S. coal production and consumption have both declined since hitting peaks in 2009 and 2007 respectively. In 2018, coal production was the lowest since 1978. However, U.S. exports in 2018 were the highest since 2011, although domestic consumption in million short tons overshadows exports by a 10:1 margin.
