Electricity consumption predicted to increase in 2018 according to EIA

2017 Winter, 65% Chance for La Nina

According to the EIA Short-Term Energy Outlook, natural gas electricity generation will be lower in 2018 from previous years due to higher costs for natural gas and an increased amount of renewable generation. Both wind and solar electricity generating capacity is forecasted to increase. The U.S. commercial sector average price for electricity is expected to average 11 cents per kilowatt hour in 2018, up 0.33 cents from 2017 average prices. Total electric power sector consumption is predicted to go up in 2018 from 26.04 bcf from 24.84 bcf.
