ENGIE Further Strengthens Red Sox Environmental Commitment
April 30, 2018
ENGIE is supporting the sustainability strategy of another heavy hitter: The Boston Red Sox. As part of the Major League Baseball team’s efforts to reduce the environmental impact of Fenway Park, ENGIE Resources is now supplying renewable energy certificates (RECs) to offset 100 percent of the ballpark’s electricity consumption for the next two years.
Each Green-e® certified REC represents the environmental attributes or benefits associated with a specific quantity of energy generated from a renewable source, such as solar or wind. RECs encourage the development of domestic sources of renewable energy, which help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Since 2014, the Red Sox have reduced the total energy consumption of Fenway Park by 12 percent through a range of energy conservation projects, from lighting retrofits to the installation of high efficiency heating equipment. This latest move will complement those efforts and strengthen the team’s sustainability impact.
