Hello Hydrogen
August 10, 2020
Hydrogen is hot right now. But what is it and where does it come from? Today, most hydrogen is produced from natural gas in a process where methane reacts with high temperature steam to remove carbon dioxide. Electricity from the grid or renewables including biomass, geothermal, solar, or wind can also produce hydrogen. Production from water is possible through electrolysis but this only accounts for 0.1% of current production. When consumed in a fuel cell, the only emissions are heat, water and electricity.
