Houston: Triple Digits Abound

August 12, 2019

The Houston region has hit the century mark in a couple of ways. Temperatures have reached 100° F with accompanying heat index levels that were above 100 multiple times during the past week. In addition, daily day ahead electricity prices also reached triple digits, reaching more than $149/MWh and averaging $123.60/MWh from Aug. 5-9.

While the electricity price was the highest in months, it was no match for July 2018 when prices surpassed $200/MWh on several days. In fact, 2018 was the tenth warmest July on record. Below are Houston’s top ten Julys dating back to 1892.
