Keystone State Looks to Add Gas Severance Tax

Pennsylvania has been the lone shale producing state without a severance tax on the extraction of natural gas. The state has rejected such a tax in recent years, but the governor is taking another run at the proposition which is estimated to generate $4.5 billion in the span of four years.
Marcellus and Utica shale has made the state the nation’s second-largest natural gas producer at 18 bcf/d.
