Millions of Wells Releasing Methane

As low natural gas prices contribute to bankruptcies and abandoned wells, the issue of prolonged methane emissions continues to grow. A Bloomberg report estimates that there are 3.2 million deserted wells in the U.S. A study in Pennsylvania found that 90% of abandoned well sites were leaking methane, which is nearly 30 times more potent as a heat-trapping gas versus carbon dioxide.
