Ohio Energy Battle Has Beijing Overtones
August 29, 2019
It’s “Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts” vs. “Ohioans for Energy Security” in the Buckeye State. Ohio’s House Bill 6 provides financial assistance to some of the state’s coal and nuclear power plants and reduces renewable energy mandates. It naturally pits local officials from regions with these assets and nuclear power advocates against environmental groups, renewable energy companies and the fossil fuel industry. One organization, Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts, hopes to secure enough petition signatures to land a ballot measure in 2020 that would overturn the law. On the other side is Ohioans for Energy Security who plan a media campaign against the petition. This group plans an advertising campaign that introduces China into the issue.
