Utility Scale Solar Costs Drop
September 10, 2019
In the race to be competitive, average costs for solar photovoltaic generation have fallen by 37% since 2013. Wind has dropped by 13% and natural gas by 4.7% over the period, according to recently released EIA data. In 2017, however, solar costs decreased while onshore wind and natural gas costs per kilowatt actually increased slightly. Solar still has room to make up as it costs 43% more per kilowatt versus wind turbines and 250% more than natural gas.
