Interview: ENGIE’s Chris Guerrero on the Texas Energy Landscape
Across ERCOT, the pace of energy demand has accelerated sharply, driven by data centers, industrial expansion, and population growth. In a recent interview with Invest: Houston, Chris Guerrero, VP of marketing at ENGIE Resources, described this shift firsthand.
“Demand is growing faster than infrastructure can be brought online,” he notes, pointing to timing—not just supply—as the central challenge facing the market. “It used to be enough to find the lowest cost per megawatt-hour. That’s not enough anymore.”
That shift is also redefining the role of renewables in the Texas market. No longer viewed solely through a sustainability lens, they are increasingly seen as a practical pathway to expanding supply. In parallel, energy procurement is evolving. What was once primarily about price is now equally about access, speed, and long-term certainty.
For commercial and industrial customers, the implication is clear: power is no longer a given, and it must be planned for.
