Natural Gas Storage Strong, Summer Risks Persist
The latest U.S. storage data offers a helpful signal for energy buyers: natural gas inventories rose by 95 Bcf for the week ending May 29, bringing total working gas in storage to 2,578 Bcf.
That level sits 138 Bcf above the five-year average, indicating the market has a reasonable near-term supply cushion heading into summer. However, inventories remain slightly below last year’s levels, and weather-driven demand can quickly reshape the price outlook, particularly in regions where gas plays a key role in power pricing.
Despite strong injections, natural gas markets remain highly weather sensitive. Elevated temperatures and rising power demand can quickly tighten balances and drive price volatility.
