Utility-Scale Solar Expands Role in Meeting U.S. Power Demand
Utility-scale solar is becoming a larger contributor to the U.S. power supply as electricity demand continues to grow across many regions. This is according to a new Market Pulse report from the American Clean Power Association (ACP). The report highlights that the U.S. now has 161 gigawatts (GW) of operational utility-scale solar capacity, enough generation to power nearly 34 million homes. ACP reports that utility-scale solar produced 8.9% of total U.S. electricity over the past year, with 14 states now generating more than 10% of their electricity from solar resources.
Looking ahead, ACP projects utility-scale solar capacity could reach 300 GW by 2030 and account for approximately 12% of total U.S. electricity generation. The report also notes a development pipeline of approximately 104 GW, with every U.S. state having at least one utility-scale solar project under development.
