Survey Finds Renewables Remain Part of Energy Planning
Renewable energy continues to be an important consideration for many organizations, but businesses appear to be evaluating those decisions through an increasingly pragmatic lens.
According to the 2026 Business Energy Census, 73% of respondents said customers remain willing to pay some premium for renewable energy. The finding suggests that sustainability remains a priority for many organizations, even as businesses continue to navigate cost pressures and evolving market conditions.
The Census, developed by ENGIE and Energy Research Consulting Group (ERCG), surveyed 132 aggregators, brokers, and consultants who work directly with commercial and industrial customers across competitive energy markets. Their responses indicate that renewable energy interest remains strong, but procurement decisions are increasingly being evaluated alongside broader business objectives.
The results reflect a notable shift in how many organizations approach energy planning. While sustainability initiatives remain important, businesses are increasingly looking for solutions that support multiple objectives, including cost management, operational performance, resilience, and long-term planning.
