ERCOT Rolls Out RTC+B
On December 5, ERCOT launched Real-Time Co-Optimization plus Batteries (RTC+B). This is the biggest market enhancement in 15 years. Previously, energy and ancillary services were scheduled separately, often leading to inefficiencies and higher costs.
RTC+B now co-optimizes both every five minutes, using advanced algorithms to select the most cost-effective mix of resources, including batteries.
“Once implemented, these enhancements will provide operational and reliability benefits to the ERCOT system as well as estimated annual wholesale market savings in excess of one billion dollars,” said ERCOT in its official announcement. “We expect significant savings to pass down to Texas electric consumers as a result.”
For commercial buyers, this means more efficient dispatch, improved reliability, and potential cost savings, making procurement strategies and real-time monitoring more critical than ever.
