Natural Gas Storage Rises, Comparisons Remain Mixed
U.S. working natural gas in storage reached 3,415 billion cubic feet (Bcf) for the week ending September 25, 2026, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That was a 64 Bcf increase from the previous week. Inventories stood 79 Bcf above the five-year average but 138 Bcf below the year-earlier level. EIA reported that total stocks remained within the five-year historical range.
Those comparisons provide different views of the same inventory level: storage was above its recent seasonal average, though below the level recorded at this point last year. Neither comparison, on its own, indicates where natural gas prices or supply conditions will go next.
