U.S. commercial energy buyers are facing a more complex and time‑sensitive renewable procurement landscape as policy changes, tax credit reforms, and interconnection delays reshape project economics.

According to energy advisory firm Trio, buyers face a “critical decision-making window” over the next four years into 2030, as projects developed after key tax credit deadlines are expected to face higher costs and reduced availability. Developers are accelerating timelines to meet eligibility deadlines, while supply chain constraints and interconnection bottlenecks are tightening available supply. Looking ahead to 2030, buyers are increasingly expected to diversify technology portfolios in long-term procurement.
