Wholesale Power Prices Dip Seasonally
Wholesale electricity prices across most U.S. regions fell to near 12‑month lows in October, in line with typical “shoulder-season” patterns. The U.S. Energy Information Administration noted that daily on-peak prices across RTOs like PJM, ERCOT, MISO, ISO‑NE, NYISO, and CAISO were among the lowest in the previous year as mild weather reduced both heating and cooling demand.
Underlying Causes
Temperate weather in October alleviated electricity demand for heating and air conditioning.
Abundant natural gas inventories helped restrain generation costs, reinforcing downward price pressure.
