ERCOT Weighs Performance Credits to Avoid Crises

December 15, 2022, could be a milestone day in ERCOT. This is the last date for public comment before the PUCT votes on a proposed market reform that requires power providers to buy “performance credits” from power generators, intended to guarantee that both have enough electricity to meet demand during periods of stress to the electrical grid.
The recommendation comes from E3 Consulting. The introduction of performance credits is estimated to increase costs to ERCOT consumers by about $460 million annually.
