National Liberty Museum Joins Fight Against Fossil Fuels

December 13, 2019

Industrial Energy (Wayne, PA) has announced a five-year energy agreement between the National Liberty Museum and ENGIE Resources LLC. The agreement runs through 2023 and demonstrates the museum’s commitment to civic responsibility and the environment while achieving budget certainty.

National Liberty Museum will receive Green-e® certified Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to match 100% of its energy usage, Green-e® RECs are determined by the Center for Resource Solutions to be independently verified to represent the environmental benefits of one MWh of renewable energy. The RECs in this agreement represent the environment benefits equal to either the removal of more than 1.2 million pounds of coal burned.

Located in the heart of historic Philadelphia, the National Liberty Museum opened in 2000 and brings liberty to life through interactive exhibits, contemporary works of art, and stories of heroes whose character and courage have expanded liberty for all.

“The National Liberty Museum is thrilled to have partnered with ENGIE to promote the use of renewable energy throughout our Museum,” said Alaine Arnott, Chief Administrative Officer of the National Liberty Museum. “With our robust slate of exhibitions, including our newest, “Forbidden Art,” we know that our energy use is going to keep increasing, and this opportunity allows us to be more efficient while continuing to be a good steward of our planet’s resources.”

NLM will also achieve budget certainty throughout the term of this agreement with a fixed price structure. “With their unique focus on exhibit lighting, temperature control, and humidity, museums tend to have energy intensity levels that are above average compared to other buildings,” said Brad McIntyre, business development manager at ENGIE Resources. “We have the risk management expertise to help address the volatile commodity markets. We also have a sincere interest to serve this sector because of its vital roles in society, from guardians of history to cultural exchange and mutual understanding to supporting the local business climate through cultural tourism.”

Industrial Energy (Wayne, PA) served as an advisor on the transaction. “We’re seeing steadily growing interest in ways that end-users can participate in the zero-carbon transition and help support renewables,” said Michael Amabile, president.
