Breaking Down Natural Gas Breakeven Price

Prices keep falling and production is not. Where is the floor for U.S. natural gas prices? According to the International Gas Union, nearly 70% of proven gas reserves globally are now estimated to be in fields with average breakeven prices of less than $3.00/mmbtu. Bloomberg analysts conclude that several U.S. basins including Eagle Ford, Marcellus, Utica and Woodford are breakeven below $3.00/mmbtu and as low as $1.64/mmbtu. McKinsey reports that North America can produce enough gas to meet more than 25 years of demand below $2.80/mmbtu.
