Inflation: Back to the Future

In May, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.0 percent, seasonally adjusted, and rose 8.6 percent over the last 12 months, not seasonally adjusted. The overall CPI is the highest since 1981 with food price inflation the highest since 1980. Inflation today mirrors the days of the DeLorean. Bad memories for some and new territory for others. Some analysts believe the rate is rising faster than the published figures indicate.
