Natural Gas Share Of ERCOT Generation Rises, Widens Gap With Coal

Natural gas-fired generation accounted for 39 percent of total energy supply in ERCOT last month, up from 38 percent in December – and the highest share since September’s figure of 41 percent. Data from the Texas grid operator also showed that coal-fired power was responsible for 28 percent of supply in January, compared with 33 percent the previous month and 36 percent in December 2016. The 10 percent differential was the highest since August.
