NYC Bans Gas in New Buildings
December 20, 2021
New York City has approved a bill banning natural gas hookups in new buildings. The City Council took the step as part of its efforts to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. The law applies to new buildings under seven stories high at the end of 2023 and taller buildings in 2027. Exceptions include buildings used for manufacturing, hospitals, commercial kitchens, and laundromats. Until now, the largest city with such a ban was San Jose (CA).
