PJM Market Sentiment Amid Market Volatility
June 10, 2025
Our 2025 Business Energy Census suggests a shift in priorities for energy professionals. There are several factors that can account for this, including changing market conditions. The perceived importance of new technologies and sustainability initiatives may also be yielding priority as energy experts try to navigate constantly fluctuating market dynamics.
In our survey, 10% of respondents said energy had become less strategic. However, the 2025 report does reveal a regional trend: businesses in the PJM Interconnection are placing greater strategic emphasis on energy than the national average.
This heightened focus comes as energy price volatility and changing market conditions reshape the market. The survey results paint a vivid picture of anticipation of higher volatility, driven by the expected surge in energy demand from data center and manufacturing customers.
Additionally, while the appetite for green energy premiums is softening nationally, PJM still shows a willingness to pay small or moderate premiums for renewable energy.
