Small Reactors Offer Big Potential

Imagine a nuclear reactor that is small enough to fit inside a house and can supply 1,200 homes with electricity. A handful of companies around the world are developing nukes that are up to 90% smaller than the plants that currently supply about 20% of U.S. power. The concept is in response to carbon-free electricity requirements. Small scale, modular reactors could be built at factories and assembled on-site. The NRC has approved NuScale’s application for 12 units in Idaho.
