Texas sets record for wind energy output, meeting 45 percent of state’s needs
January 16, 2017
Texas set a record for wind energy production on Dec. 20, as the clean energy resource provided 45 percent of the state’s electricity needs – or 13.9 gigawatts. The mark is noteworthy not only because wind provided such a large portion of power for 17 straight hours, but also because it showed that the Texas grid can handle significant wind energy for an extended period of time without suffering instability or brownouts.
